Magnetic or Not?

Today in science the students used magnets to test out different objects to see if they were magnetic or not? There were a few surprises that the students came upon such as a rock that is magnetic. Weird Huh? I wonder why, can anyone tell me?

How Light Travels

Recently in Science the students used flashlights and tried to figure out how light travels. They were surprised to see that light travels in a straight line. Then they used mirrors to try and get the light to bounce off the mirrors and hit a target. It took some groups a little while to hit the target but they finally all got it.

States of Matter

At the beginning of the year we studied states of matter in science. This seemed to be something that the students enjoyed because it was familiar to them. The states of matter are solid, liquid, and gas. As a grade level we went outside to learn more about the states of matter and to do a few experiments. We were able to do an Ice Race where we put 3 ice cubes in different locations to see which one would melt the fastest. Then we made goo and the students had to try and figure out what state of matter the goo was in. Then finally we did a gas explosion with coke and mentos. I think this was all of the kids favorite because the coke shot out of the bottle like a rocket. Here are a few pictures of the kids at work.

Welcome

Welcome to the blog for Mrs. McDaniel's Bobcats. We plan to use our blog to communicate with one another - share math ideas, sceince experiments, relfect on what we learn, and post fun pictures and videos from our 4th grade year. We hope you will stop by often!
